A week of fracking events

April 4th 2014

At least nine events about fracking and shale gas are planned over the next week throughout England. Details, weblinks and email contacts are below.

Saturday 5th April
Friends of the Earth is organising a Power Up event from 10.30-4.30, offering advice on the law and planning system. It takes place at Eccles Friends Meeting House, 13 The Polygon, Wellington Road, Eccles M30 0DS. Details from fracking@foe.co.uk

Calow Against Gas Extraction is organising a fun day to raise awareness on plans to drill for gas in the village and thank the community for continuing support. The event is at Somerset House, Top Road, Calow and runs from 8am-5pm. Details at http://www.calowagainstgasextraction.org.uk/index.html

Tuesday 8th April
Frack Free Greater Manchester and the Protectors of Barton Moss are organising a demonstration outside the Civil Centre, Swinton,M27 5FJ as Salford City Council debates fracking. The council has been forced to debate the issue by the collection of over 3,000 signatures in a petition. The Cabinet meeting starts at 10AM and the petition is the fourth item on the agenda. Wednesday 9th April
Frack Free Cleveland is organising a public meeting from 7pm-9pm at Sunnyfield House, 36 Westgate, Guisborough, TS14 6BA. Details from info@frackfreecleveland

Public meeting on fracking at the Friends Meeting House, Horse Fair, Banbury, at 7.30pm. The speakers include the Green MEP, Keith Taylor, and Paul Mobbs, of Banbury. Details

Thursday 10th April
CPRE is organising a talk from specialist oil and gas consultant, Caroline Dibden, on the technology of fracking and the dangers it might pose to the public. Mrs Dibden, a CPRE member, has been a consultant on most of the petroleum basins of the world, including the Brent oilfield in the North Sea. The talk is at Elizabeth Hall, Raven Road, Hook RG27 9HH. Friday 11th April
A talk on plans for underground coal gasification and shale gas exploration in the north east is the subject of a talk in Stockton, organised by Frack Free Cleveland. The talk is from 7pm-9pm at The Arc, Dovecot Street, Stockton, TS18 1LL. Details from info@frackfreecleveland

Saturday 12th April
Fracking in Surrey is screening The Truth Behind The Dash For Gas at Shalford Village Hall, Kings Road, Shalford, Guildford GU4 8JU. The event is free and includes first hand experience from Balcombe residents. Hydro-geologist Graham Warren will answer questions.
